[user-forum] a real forum?

My vote would be to keep the list. It has it's history, tradition and it
would be a shame for it to be lost. Anyone remember "Ye Olde Oberheim
Alley" on Sonic State?
http://www.the-gas-station.com/messages.cfm?type=messages&thread_id=6003&.
It was THE longest running thread on the Sonic State forums. There was a
history and community around it. It was absolutely alive and had a very
cool vibe to it. Like the old Abbey, this list is alive. Anyone on the
Digitalhell list? Not much comes through. I honestly believe certain lists
live because of the format and the people behind it. Once you change that,
you risk losing peole, more on that below. As for the Abbey, a few decided
to move it to it's own web site. It was OK to start, but that vibe of going
to the the-gas-station and checking out what was new was gone. There was no
"abbey" at the-gas-station amongst all the other abbeys. It pretty much
died after that. This is the last link I have for new Abbey:
http://forum.onecenter.com/analog/. BTW, maybe the "new" Abbey just died
for me? If anyone has an updated link, let me know. There is something
convenient about having email come to your inbox. A forum is great, but if
you are too busy to go to it and you do not have anything reminding you, you
can lose touch and the list could suffer. Replies might be delayed or lost
all together. The community thins out and dies.
If there is to be a Waldorf forum, the best way to do it in my opinion would
be to keep this list and just link to it in the Waldorf signature links as
another place to check out. And have RSS so people can subscribe to it and
be reminded when updates come in.
My vote: keep the list regardless of a forum. Once you shut down the doors
it's over. It would be like trying to move CBGGs and expecting things to be
the same.
